Vivian (otherwise Vivian Dyson) Pendleton was born in 1888, the son of John and Mary A Pendleton, and the younger brother of Basil Pendleton (qv). Attended Manchester University. Occupation given as architect and surveyor in 1911. Served in the armed forces during the First World War, rising to the rank of Captain. Joined the Institute of Structural Engineers. In 1939 he was advising on Air Raid Precautions on behalf of the Phoenix Construction Company.

During the inter-war period he acquired “Kiwi” a 60-foot Motor Yacht designed by Herbert W White and built at the family’s boat yard at Southampton in 1914. Vivian Pendleton, described as a Manchester architect, added a second 6 cylinder 'wing' engine, later removed.
