Thomas Sharpe

The son of Thomas and Mary A Sharpe, Thomas Sharpe was born in Kendal in 1874. He was articled to Stephen Shaw of Kendal and attended Kendal School of Art before moving to Manchester where he found employment as assistant to Edward Salomons. He passed the qualifying examination and was elected ARIBA in 1899, proposed by Edward Salomons, Stephen Shaw and John Holden. In 1902 he was appointed assistant architect to Durham County Council where he remained for the next 37 years, retiring in 1939.
Thomas Sharpe died on 10 April 1943 at The General Hospital, Westgate Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He was survived by his widow, Frances Lloyd Sharpe.
