The eldest son of Quentin Theodore Bluhm, stocks and shares broker, and his wife Helen, the daughter of Fenton Mangnall and niece of the architect William Mangnall (I). Quentin Mangnall Bluhm was born at Kersal Salford in 1882. He was articled to Edward Hewitt of Brazennose Street Manchester and may have remained as assistant. On his father’s retirement the family moved from Broughton to St Anne’s -on-the-Sea where Q Mangnall Bluhm commenced independent practice, later opening a second office in Preston.  FRIBA 1920 ARIBA 1910.  He was a member of the 5th (Ardwick) Volunteer Battalion, The Manchester Regiment being commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 7 April 1907; Lieutenant, 1 April 1908; and Captain on 27 April 1912. He served as a Captain in the 1/8th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment in World War I and was wounded at Gallipoli on 7 June 1915. Promoted Major, he was awarded Distinguished Service Order (DSO) in 1920.

 On 5 September 1923 at St. Thomas’s Church, St. Anne’s-on-the-Sea, Major Quentin Mangnall Bluhm DSO FRIBA married  Gladys Edith, only daughter of the late Rev J. Hadfiend Wolfenden, Vicar of St. Michael’s Blackburn and Mrs Wolfenden, of  St. Anne’s. [The Times, Saturday, 8 September 1923; pg.1]

Quentin Mangnall Bluhm died on 24 June 1955 at 643 Liverpool Road Ainsdale Southport.
