Ernest James Pomeroy was born in Southampton in 1877, one of seven children of Philip Thomas Pomeroy, licensed victualler, and his wife Maria. He was articled to Llanfield G Greenwood of Southampton from 1894 to 1897 and remained as assistant 1897-1899. He then moved to Bolton as assistant to John Ormrod 1899 until 1904 when he was taken into partnership under the style Ormrod and Pomeroy. The partnership was dissolved on 31 December 1914 at which time E J Pomeroy continued the practice under the style Ormrod Pomeroy and Foy in partnership with Joseph Foy junior. This partnership was in turn dissolved on 31 December 1937. In 1910 he became LRIBA proposed by J Pilling, P C Pilling and J Ormrod and in 1925 he was elected a Fellow of the RIBA proposed by Joseph Foy, John B. Gass, and Arthur J. Hope.
