Edward Fox Tallis was born on 29 May 1851 at Hawarden, Flintshire, the son of Richard Tallis, surveyor and Elizabeth Fox. By 1871 he was an architect’s pupil in Manchester living with his aunt and uncle and attending Manchester School of Art. On completion of his articles her remained in Manchester, but almost nothing is known of his subsequent professional career, other than a design for a soap works in Sharp Street, Rochdale Road. [British Architect 22 August 1879].

On 3 September 1879 Edward Fox Tallis married Mary Jane Dentith, daughter of Thomas Dentith, at St Luke’s Church, Cheetham. She died about 1888 having given him five children.

Edward Fox Tallis, died on 19 October 1907 and was buried at St. Luke's Church, Cheetham.
