David Frederick Green, the son of Ralph and Sarah Green was born in Bolton in 1862 and trained as a land surveyor before commencing independent practice as surveyor and architect. In 1886 he married Emma Holden, daughter of Joseph and sister of Charles Henry Holden (qv). Few details have emerged regarding his practice which appears to have been predominantly residential. However, in 1891 his brother-in-law, Charles Holden, began working for him, before being articled to the Manchester architect Everard William Leeson (qv) in April 1892. About 1896 he entered into partnership with Robert Knowles Woodhouse, the son of George Woodhouse and his third wife. This partnership was dissolved on 31 December 1897 although formal notice was not given until August 1898, after which D F Green practised alone.

David Frederick Green died on 1 May 1918 at Lytham
