Cyril Eyres Ainley was born in 1882, the son of Rev Samuel Barber Ainley, curate, later rector, of St James’s Church Moss Side, and his wife, Edith Julia Ainley. By 1909 Cyril Eyres Ainley had commenced independent practice, with an office at 8 Exchange Street, Manchester. After the First World War he removed to Liverpool and there entered into partnership with Gerald de Courcy Fraser with offices at 27 Dale Street. This partnership ended on 19 March 1924 [London Gazette]. In 1923 the firm was responsible for the design of Casino Cinema, Prescot Road, Fairfield, Liverpool. On 12 September 1912, he married Ethel Miriam Gulland at St James’s Church Moss Side. He died in 1965 at Bakewell, Derbyshire, aged 87.
