Charles Crush was born in Ardwick, Manchester and articled in Manchester to Woodhouse & Willoughby, and practised in Manchester and Bolton. From 1916 to 1919 he was on the staff of the Ministry of Munitions before joining Potts & Hennings in partnership from 1919 to 1933. He then commenced practice on his own account. He and was surveyor to the Order of the Faithful Companions of Jesus. and built under his own name the chapel and hostel at Salford Training College, Sedgley Park, Prestwich.
