Charles Edwin Child was born at Pimlico in 1843, the son of Charles Child, a builder, and his wife Caroline. He was a pupil of George Goldie who took him into partnership in 1867. He remained in partnership under the style “Goldie and Child,” until 1880 when Edward Goldie was taken into partnership the firm becoming “Goldie, Child and Goldie.”  Following the death of George Goldie, he continued in partnership with Edward Goldie until 1893 when he set up a small practice in Ealing on his own account. He retired about 1910, moving to Acton. Charles Edwin Child died on 11 May 1911 at 119 Twyford Avenue, Acton, and was buried in Acton Cemetery.
