The youngest son of John Jackson Openshaw, cotton spinner and his wife Emma, Cecil Howard Openshaw was born in 1876 at Bury. Following the death of his older brother, Charles H Openshaw (qv) in 1899 he continued the practice in partnership with William Ernest Gill from the same address under the name of Openshaw and Gill until 29 May 1903 after which Gill practiced under his own name. Little is known of Cedric Openshaw’s subsequent activities. In 1911 he was living on private means at Ashton Hall near Lancaster. He died on 10 November 1915 at “The Retreat, Lancaster.
