- Born 1862 Matlock Bath
- Died May 1883 Pleasure Boat Hollow, River Ribble near Preston
THE SAD FATALITY IN THE RIBBLE - About five o'clock on Monday evening, some fishermen who were catching some shrimps on George's Brow in the estuary of the Ribble opposite Crossens, found the body of a young man named Archibald S Hawley, an architect who was drowned on Monday week. Deceased, who was in the employ of Messrs Garlick Park & Sykes, Preston, was engaged with others in surveying in connection with the Ribble Navigation Bill and while wading in some shallow water, suddenly came into a deep and strong current in Pleasure Boat Hollow and was drowned. A diligent search was at once made for the body but nothing was found beyond a mackintosh. Deceased was conveyed to the Plough Inn at Crossens where an inquest will be held
