Archibald Ritchie

Based on the census return of 1841* Archibald Ritchie was born in London about 1818 the son of Archibald Ritchie originally from Scotland and Frances Ann Ritchie of London. According to the Architects, Engineers abd Building Trades Directory of 1868 he had been a pupil of Francis Goodwin. By 1851 he had married and moved to Oswestry, suggesting that he had found employment with one or more members of the Penson family. About 1856 R K Penson opened an office in Swansea with Archibald Ritchie as assistant but Ritchie later returned to Chester, as assistant to Thomas Mainwaring Penson. After the death of T M Penson in 1864 he joined Richard Kyle Penson in partnership, this ending in 1872. Ritchie continued to practice on his own account until the mid-1880s.
Archibald Ritchie died 11 August 1891 at 2 Hamilton Terrace Hoole, survived by his wife. The marriage was childless.
