Sunday School, Church Road, Prestolee, Bolton
PRESTOLEE'S NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL. The hamlet of Prestolee was en-fete on Saturday afternoon. The occasion was the stone-laying ceremony of the new Sunday schools which are being erected at a cost exceeding £2,000. The building is being erected by Mr. James H. Coope, Queen Street, Farnworth. and the architect is Mr. George Crowther, of Bolton. For some years past Sanday-school work has had to be conducted in a tumble-down corrugated building situated near the church, under most disadvantageous conditions. The new buildings when completed will accommodate about 650 scholars, and in addition to classrooms will contain large hall, with platform at one end, which will be available for meetings and entertainments. The new building will also include kitchen, cloak-rooms, and billiard-room. In addition to the erection of a new Sunday school, it is intended, when the necessary funds are forthcoming, to build a new Parsonage, a Church House, to which will be attached a bowling green and tennis courts. With these objects in view, Mrs. Tong, of “Glenthorn,” Great Lever, has generously presented the parish with two acres of land. The situation of the land is admirable for the purposes required, as the church, Sunday school, Parsonage, and Church House will be in proximity to each other.
