STOCKPORT - The first premium for the plans of the proposed new High School for Girls at Stockport has been awarded to Messrs. Spalding and Spalding, London, who have been appointed by the education committee architects of the building. A site has been secured for the new school in Beech-road, Cale Green. The estimated cost of the school is £11,000, and accommodation will be provided for 250 children. [Building News 1 May 1908 page 628]

Stockport Council took control of the school in 1903, and plans were made for a new purpose-built school on a larger site.  The site chosen, purchased from Henry Bell for £2,457, was the last remaining part of Cale Green Farm, including the site of the farmhouse.   The new school building was of red facing brick and Darley Dale stone, and cost £14,561 plus £1,160 for furniture. It was formally opened on 13 October 1910.
