St. Winifrede's Church, Bickley, Cheshire.
ST. WINIFREDE'S CHURCH, BICKLEY, CHESHIRE - This church has recently been erected on a site bounded on three sides by the public road. The site has been given, and the church built chiefly, at the cost of the Marquis of Cholmondeley. The interior and exterior are built of mottled red sandstone from the Edge quarries — the roofs and the spire being covered with small, thick, Westmoreland green slates. The timbers of the roof are massive, and the seating, all carried out in oak, is of a plain, substantial character. The chancel windows are filled with painted glass by Messrs. Hardman. The late Mr. Samuel Biggins, of Edge, was the builder, but the seating and other internal fittings were executed by the Cholmondeley Estate workmen. The church affords seating accommodation for 250, and the cost has been about £2,800. [British Architect 9 October 1896 page 254]
