THE NEW STATION, NEWTOWN - The booking office of the new station at Newtown was opened on Saturday. The station, which is almost completed, is a one storied building, and contains 1st class ladies' and gentlemen’s rooms, with conveniences, a parcel office, telegraph office, station-master's office, large booking office also a large general waiting- room, 25ft. by 16ft porters' rooms, store room, &c. The platform is 15ft. wide, paved with blue brick, and covered the whole length of the station with a neat Gothic roof, supported on iron columns, The floor of the station is level with the platform and five feet above the road; the booking office being approached by a flight of ten steps. The elevations are Gothic faced and Fenn's Bank bricks and Cefn stone dressing, the windows having handsomely carved mullions, the general effect being very pleasing. Mr George Owen was the engineer, Mr W. H. Spaull, of Oswestry, the architect, and Mr Ward, of Whittington, the contractor. The gas fitting was done by Mr Ashford, of Newtown.
