New build

The new Chapel has been built by Mr W T Sharpe of Ampthill from designs by an eminent firm of architects – Moulds and Porritt. Mr S J Mould attended the stone laying and Mr Porritt was, we believe, well satisfied with the completed work, which he inspected a few days prior to the opening. The front is Gothic, red brick with stone coping, a large window surmounting the doorway into a vestibule. The outer roofing is slated; whilst the ceiling is whitened. The plastered walls are tinted and the wood of beams, seats (for about 120 persons) and rostrum (of convenient construction) is stained and varnished, the seats and rostrum being of a lighter colour than the dark oak table and chairs on a carpeted dais just below the rostrum, beside which is accommodation for choir and organ. Felt covers the flooring of the chapel and of the vestry adjoining; four lights provide light; whilst contiguous to the new building is an old cottage belonging to the cause which can be used for kitchen and storage purposes.
