In 1885 the building opened as the Buxton House Hydropathic and was renamed the Peak Hydropathic in 1887. Extensive additions were made in 1897. 1915-1926: Became an annex to the Canadian Granville Military Hospital, and later a full hospital for Canadian soldiers. In 1926 Buxton Corporation purchased most of the building and relocated. the town's Museum and Library within its walls in 1928.

 

BUXTON - Extensive additions have recently been made to the Peak Hydropathic, Buxton, including new ballroom, sitting-room, bedrooms, etc. The architect of the new building is Mr. Charles Heathcote, and the builder carrying out the work under his superintendence. is Mr. James Byron, of Bury.
