Goods Offices, Stanley Street, Salford
The L&YR is putting in hand the erection of new goods offices, the removal of the present offices (at Salford) having been rendered necessary in consequence of the LNWR laying down a new double line of rails from Victoria station to Ordsall Lane. The new offices for the L&YR are being erected on the site of the old courthouse adjoining Stanley Street, and the work in both cases is being carried out under the supervision and from the designs of Mr Meek, the engineer, and Mr Green, the architect, for the company. With the opening of Stangeways Prison, New Bailey Prison was closed and demolished. The site, between New Bailey Street and New Bridge Street, became a railway goods yard with vehicular entrance at the Albert Bridge end.
