Now Albemarle House. Foundation Stone laid 10 July 1908 by Squire Wright of Flixton House. The Women’s Institute was built in 1908 to replace the earlier Institute situated in Woodsend Road. During the First World War it was transformed into an auxiliary hospital, then known as Wibbersley Hospital No 2 – working in conjunction with a larger auxiliary hospital at Wibbersley, in Irlam Road. For many years it was used as the Flixton Youth Club before being commandeered in 2005 for renovation and other use. In 2010 it was used for educational purposes. The change of name from the Flixton Institute came about following the publication of the Albemarle report, published in 1960.
