The Primrose Leaguers of Bolton on Saturday paid a graceful tribute to the memory of the late Mrs. Herbert Shepherd-Cross, who was really the founder of the Bolton Habitation. Colonel Bridgeman, on their behalf, unveiled a drinking fountain which has been erected at the junction of Chorley New Road and Chorley Old Road to her memory, and which was, after its unveiling, formally presented to the Mayor as representative of the people of the town. The drinking fountain was marked on OS maps dated 1907 and 1929 standing in the centre of Chorley Old Road at its junction with Chorley New Road but by 1938 the fountain had been removed presumably because of increasing traffic volumes. The fountain (non-operational) now stands near the entrance to Moss Bank Park.
