Castle Hill Dairy Farm, Bletchingley, near Redhill
Farmhouse and two parallel ranges of farm buildings specifically designed and constructed as a dairy farm in 1900. The site comprises a farmhouse and two parallel ranges of farm buildings aligned east west with a north south return on the southern range of buildings at the east end. The buildings are all constructed of brick with timber roof structures. The northern range comprises single pitched roof structures, the southern range a double pitch and single pitch. There is good attention to detailing and finishes with a uniform application of window design, with sliding wooden shutters below glazing, ventilation in the form of louvred lanterns in the roof or louvred gablets and consistent door design throughout. The farm was specifically designed and constructed as a dairy farm, with a cow house, milking parlour, storage buildings, shelter shed, cart shed and stalls. It was designed by the architect, Robert Griggs and built by a local builder, J Carrick of Redhill in 1900. (National Trust)
