Branch Bank, Broughton Bridge, 6 Great Clowes Street, Lower Broughton
THE BRANCH BANK AT BROUGHTON BRIDGE - The Borough Engineer reported that Messrs. Barker and Ellis, were anxious to begin operations in connection with the new branch bank to be erected at Broughton bridge, and that they would be prepared to set back the front of their building, on condition that the committee constructed a drain for the premises from Great Clowes Street. He (the engineer) submitted a plan of the drain, which he estimated would cost £20, and recommended the committee to do work on the above conditions. - This course was decided upon. NOTE – In 1895 Nos 2 and 4 stood between the river and the bank. The directory of that year lists a watchmaker, rag dealer and blacksmith occupying No 2, and a tobacconist at No 4. These buildings are not included in the directory of 1903. Rather, it would appear that these buildings were demolished and the bank extended during this period.
